VAT Reduced to 11%: Romanian Beekeepers Receive Significant Tax Relief

Beekeepers in Romania are benefiting from a new tax incentive. Law No. 199/2026, published in the Official Gazette No. 865 on October 15, 2026, amends the Tax Code (Law No. 227/2015) and reduces the costs of feed required for bee colonies.

The legislation adds a new subparagraph, subparagraph (o), to Article 291(2) of the Tax Code. Thus, the reduced VAT rate of 11% now applies to supplies of specialized beekeeping feed. The measure covers protein cakes, sugar-based syrups, and mixtures intended for bee consumption, provided they have a total sugar concentration of more than 10 grams per 100 grams of product.
The purpose of the new provisions is to ease the financial pressure on local beekeepers during critical periods of hive maintenance, such as the cold season or periods without natural foraging, when bees depend on supplemental feeding.
By reducing operating costs, lawmakers aim to create sustainable tax conditions for maintaining bee colonies.
