Who Can Apply for the Funding
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Starting September 28, 2026, AFIR is launching two funding calls for public entities for investments in the production and storage of electricity from renewable sources. The funding is provided through the Modernisation Fund.
The total budget allocated to the two calls is EUR 650 million: EUR 500 million for new solar power generation capacities with integrated storage for self-consumption, and EUR 150 million for the development of renewable energy storage capacities.
How to Submit Applications
Funding applications and the related documents must be submitted online through the AFIR information system between September 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., and November 20, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Projects are assessed in the order in which applications are submitted, according to the “first come, first evaluated” principle, subject to the conditions set out in the Applicant’s Guide. Projects undergo administrative and eligibility checks, and the evaluation process continues until the budget allocated to each funding call is exhausted.
What Are the Main Conditions?
For eligible investments, funding can cover up to 100% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of EUR 10 million per beneficiary. For energy storage capacities, support may not exceed EUR 200,000 for each installed MWh.
The applicable guides were approved through Ministry of Energy Orders No. 1,065 and 1,066 of September 8, 2026, and were subsequently published in the Official Gazette.
Beneficiaries must comply with the eligibility requirements and implementation obligations set out in the Applicant’s Guide. Submitting an application does not automatically guarantee approval of the funding.
