Three Employees Injured in Workplace Accident at Rovinari Power Plant

Three employees of the Rovinari Power Plant Branch, part of the Oltenia Energy Complex, were injured on the morning of Monday, May 26, 2025, following a workplace accident that occurred during preparations for clamping a belt conveyor.

According to a statement issued by the company, the safety device of the tensioning system broke, and, being under mechanical stress, it acted like a spring-loaded element or an uncontrolled falling weight.

Two of the injured workers were transported to the County Emergency Hospital in Târgu Jiu, and the third to the Town Hospital in Rovinari. All three underwent specialized examinations and received medical care and are in stable condition. None of the workers required hospitalization.

The belt conveyor is a transport system consisting of a continuous rubber or synthetic belt mounted on a series of rollers, moving between two drums. The belt is powered by an electric motor and enables the movement of materials from one point to another over variable distances without direct human intervention, but it requires periodic maintenance performed by staff.

The incident was reported to the Gorj County Labor Inspectorate, and the employer has set up a commission to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the accident.
