Printing of tax receipts

According to a recent legislative proposal adopted by the Parliament and sent to the President of Romania for promulgation, it is envisaged that economic operators that collect money using credit or debit cards will no longer be obliged to issue tax receipts using electronic fiscal cash machines.

This regulation applies to both full and partial payments, whether the payment is made in cash or by card. However, if customers request, operators may print and provide the tax receipt.

It is important to note that the absence of the tax receipt does not affect consumers’ rights under consumer protection legislation, and the bank statement will be able to serve as proof of purchase.

The new legislation aims to simplify processes and reduce costs by eliminating the obligation to issue tax receipts for card transactions, thus helping to stimulate innovation and technological development. It also introduces an exception for vending machines that only accept card payments, which will not require an electronic fiscal transaction machine.
